A New Home for Husky Baseball
Husky Ballpark
University of Washington, WA
With views of Lake Washington and Mt. Rainier, the home of the University of Washington baseball team boasts one of the most beautiful settings in college baseball.
This facility means so much more to us than simply for our players to have a home. It allows us to recruit a lot of front‑line players. It allows us to have credibility with parents when they bring their sons on visits.
Lindsay Meggs, Washington Baseball Head Coach
A Modern Sports Venue
The Husky Ballpark announces the University of Washington’s athletic complex, providing a sense of arrival on the campus’ east side. The complex supports the field’s geometry, ushering visitors to a ceremonial entrance behind Home Plate with views to Mount Rainier and Lake Washington. Designed as an integrated sports venue, the new team building, seating bowl, press box, and public plaza comprise a modern facility that conveys a dignified sense of permanence to inspire both fans and young athletes. The design respects the existing intercollegiate athletics buildings. The use of brick reflects baseball’s traditional character, while other materials, including exposed steel, expresses the building’s function in a clear modern way.
Player Training
The Baseball Player Development Building is a key amenity for performing at the NCAA championship level. This indoor batting and pitching facility is comprised of a large, rectangular column-free space, with an exterior roof that extends over the new ballpark’s home-team bull pen. Hanging nets divide the space into five lanes where players can work independently to hone their skills. Designed for self-directed practice, one lane includes a camera that films an athlete’s batting swing or pitching technique from four different angles. Players can then review the tapes to hone their skills in progress, taking advantage of time between workouts and classes to practice.
Integrating the Huskies' Brand
The use of the school’s colors, super graphics with images of baseball stars past and present, trophy cases with memorabilia from past husky teams, and inspirational sayings, all clearly establish the stadium as the home of the huskies.
