Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan
SRG stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement and we commit to supporting and uplifting those who have been oppressed and marginalized.
“Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year… Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.”-Representative John Lewis
SRG has taken the time in recent weeks to reflect on our role in systemic racism. We must sustain this momentum to create lasting change within SRG and across our communities. Our past efforts with regards to diversity, equity and inclusion are not enough; we are fully committed to becoming a socially just and an anti-racist company.
We are currently evaluating all aspects of our company, including our internal structures and our actions. We are holding ourselves accountable through a commitment to our expanded Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative. The JEDI initiative has developed a four-lens framework for our work in support of Black Lives Matter – GROW | ENGAGE | IMAGINE | ACT, which will enable us to continuously evolve in our efforts to be anti-racist. This framework is not linear; each of the elements informs the others, so that we are continually growing, engaging, imagining, and acting as an evolutionary process.
GROW – Seeking positive change begins with growing in our understanding of systemic racism. As we learn more about the root causes of racism and how it manifests in all aspects of society, we become better able to be part of the solution.
ENGAGE – In order to cultivate and amplify diverse ideas and perspectives, we are expanding our engagement with collaborators, clients and organizations that represent and support Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).
IMAGINE – Our mission is to invent a better future. We are continually challenging ourselves to recognize where biases, structures or processes in design have excluded Black, Indigenous People of Color and their perspectives. Through empathy, understanding and the pursuit of human-centered design, we aim to design spaces together that are engaging and welcoming for all people.
ACT – Change begins from within; we are developing concrete actions that will improve our internal policies and structures and move us forward on our path towards anti-racism.
