Edward J. Ray Hall Receives Multiple Design and Construction Awards
SRG’s Edward J. Ray Hall at Oregon State University-Cascades has received multiple design and construction awards, with jurors noting the seamless connection between interiors and its form, the restrained palette, and the design’s modular planning. Edward J. Ray Hall has received an Honor Award from the SARA National Design Awards, Best in Category for Education from the IIDA Oregon Design Excellence Awards, and a 2022 Best Projects Award of Merit from Engineering News Record Northwest in the Higher Education/Research category.
Edward J. Ray Hall represents a commitment of good stewardship, academic excellence, and responsible development by Oregon State University-Cascades—not only to its students but to the communities of Bend and Central Oregon. The new 50,000 gsf STEAM building on the growing Cascades campus in Bend, Oregon, is Net Zero ready and serves as the prototype for campus expansion with an adaptable and scalable framework for future buildings. The design, with a daylight-tuned façade and a mass timber structure, solidifies OSU-C’s identity in Bend. Informed by the unique topography of its site, the building’s dynamic indoor/outdoor environment supports OSU-C’s expanding program, engaging students in hands-on learning with a machine shop, a series of makerspaces, and flexible teaching labs.
