The project included site analysis, architectural programming, master planning and design of a new urban campus consisting of approximately 200,000 gsf of academic spaces. The new campus creates the opportunity to develop integrated community partnerships with users of adjoining buildings, allowing for the shared use of facilities to support the academic mission of the College.
To build support for the project within the community a variety of simple tools were developed to engage citizens in the master planning process. The massing model at right, which was used to gather input at public meetings, illustrated how the academic buildings could be open and accessible to the community while still creating a sense of campus identity within the city.
The Master Plan builds a network of gathering places and establishes a character that clearly defines zones of use and connections between places, successfully unifying the campus and promoting the College's interdisciplinary nature.
